Highlandler Bowmen
The Longbow had finally been supplanted by the musket in all of Europe by this period clinging on only in the wild Highlands of Scotland. Montrose's men frequently carried the bow, indeed there are reports of up to 400 bowmen with Lord Kilpont at one battle though more commonly we imagine them to have been carried within clan units. |

Highland Regular Infantry
Not all of the Highlanders that fought in the Civil War ran amok in wild mobs! Oh no, the Covenanter forces fielded units from the Highlands who had no love for Montrose nor the King. Clan emnities run deep in Scotland, so the chance to strike back attraditional enemies meant many men were formed into regular pike andshot units.

Highlanders with Lochaber Axes
Lochaber is an area of Scotland where the locals had developed a very fearsome poleaxe indeed. Cheap to make and deadly inuse, it could cut a man in two, destroy a horse or be used to drag aman out of the saddle to befinished off at leisure. Woe betide men who face such a weapon.

Highlander Arrant Scum
Well,
these crazed Caledonians are the sweepings of the floor, the last
resort, joining their cleaner elders and betters of their Clan in
delivering the feared Highland charge!

the posh men went at the front as a point of honour, armed to the
teeth with their retainers and poor folk bring up the rear,
equipped with whatever they can bring from their tumbledown crofts
and cottages, knives, dirks, clubs and ancient firearms.
