| British Infantry Command
What ho! Those frightfully good chaps at Warlord have sculpted some top brass for their WW2 Commonwealth range. There are 4 characters, all in metal. The first is the most dangerous thing known to man; an officer with a map, and a jaunty pipe of course! He has a radio operator there too to keep in touch with base and a young subalternkneeling with a sten gun. It’s all topped off with a heroic medic and stretcher...what can possibly go wrong?? |

Chindit Characters
Major-General Orde Wingate is quite possibly the most eccentric character from the Second World War. He would carry an onion around his neck that he would bite into as a snack and often went without clothing.
Major Bernard Fergusson served in the Black Watch before being given command of the 16th Infantry Brigade which was to be converted into a Chindits formation to operate deep behind the Japanese lines.
George Albert Cairns won the Victoria Cross after he was attacked by a Japanese officer who with his sword hacked off the lieutenant's left arm. The latter killed the officer, picked up the sword and continued to lead his men, slashing left and right with the captured sword, killing and wounding several of the enemy before he himself fell to the ground. This action so inspired his comrades that the Japanese were completely routed, a very rare occurrence at that time |

| British Commando Characters
Lord Lovat was one of those characters you couldn’t make up. Tall, handsome and brave, he was born to the task of command, being infact a Highland Laird. It was Lord Lovat who famously fought his way in land on D-Day to cross the bridges held by the British Paras, carrying a rifle, accompanied by his faithful bagpiper Millin!
Millin was banned from playing when under fire by the English War office but Lovat claimed that it clearly could not apply in this case as they were Scottish! Millin survived cold water and enemy bullets, causing consternation and surprise wherever he went, some think he was not shot at by the Germans as they thought he was clearlyinsane!
It would seem that Millin came ashore in Kilt but discarded it inland, so we have included both leg variants for Troowsers and full Kilt.
Finally is the extraordinary maverick Brigadier Peter Young. Amongst Britains’ most interesting and most decorated soldiers, ”The Brig” was legendary in the Commandos. His troop was the only one to fully succeed at the disaster of Dieppe. Charismatic and intelligent, he was quite the pirate, but his men would go to extreme lengths to never let him down. We have him portrayed here with his trusty (borrowed) Garand and cane. After the war he went on to be a top historian and write a best selling book about war gaming! |

British Infantry
Britain and her Commonwealth put huge numbers of men into uniform in WW2 to stem the aggression from Germany, Italy and Japan. Her small professional army was swallowed up defending a worldwide Empire and soon her forces were shattered and in full retreat, culminating in crushing reverses at Dunkirk and in Singapore.
However, Britain stoically declined to surrender and, with her loyal Empire at her side, fought back. Re-equipped and refreshed they took the war to the Axis powers. The ‘Tommies’, as they were known, learned new techniques on the field of battle and by war's end were highly trained and well-equipped.
Warlord's British infantry are tooled up for the job in hand. They are multi-part and can be assembled in a wide variety of ways, with a huge array of exotic looking weaponry. Fix bayonets!

British Universal Carriers
The
Bren (or more accurately “universal”) carrier is possibly unique
in all the armies of WW2. A small light weight armoured troop
transport capable of carrying up to 6 men, it was used on every front
the Commonwealth armies fought on – and even by the Russians via
lease-lend and the Germans via captured examples! Their primary role
was not recce as many think but simply as a transport to get troops
right up to the fighting – and, if needs be, to fight from the
carrier itself. Other roles included weapon carrier (3” mortar and
Vickers medium machine gun) and towing AT guns as well as artillery
observation vehicles.
Every
Commonwealth infantry battalion had a carrier platoon of 4 sections
of 3 carriers each. The motor battalions of the Armoured divisions
used them in platoons of 3 sections. In both cases 2 carriers formed
the HQ component. In addition every infantry company had a carrier at
HQ simply as the CO’s runabout! Even the Parachute battalions had
two each carried by glider! In short – carriers were everywhere!

British Cromwell Mark IV Cruiser Tank
The
most produced Cruiser tank the European theatre! Armed with a potent
75mm gun and with good cross country performance this vehicle was

still outclassed by the German “Big Cats”! Cromwells were used in
the 7th
armoured division and in the armoured recce regts of the Guards and
11th
Armoured Divisions. Even the 6th
Airborne armoured recce regt acquired about 8 Cromwells in Normandy
and kept hold of them during the Winter fighting in “The Bulge”.
Normally
a troop would comprise 3 Cromwells and a Firefly. |
